Oh yeah, I second your OMG Swordspoint! There are very few things that make me happier than thinking about Alec and Richard. All of those books are so addicting, and there's nothing else like them anywhere, not really.

But...you know Ellen Kushner wrote stories for the Bordertown series, right? She wrote "Mockery" with Terri Windling, and it's just gorgeous. (If Alec were an elf, he'd be Ash in this story.) You can find that one in Bordertown edited by Terri Windling and Mark Arnold. It's out of print but not too hard to find. Hm...most people recommend The Essential Bordertown to start, but it's also out of print and even harder to find. Besides, if "Mockery" doesn't hook you, nothing will.
