...in another one of those impossibly long posts. It's behind an lj cut because ( I don't hate you. )
So, where's my sparkly vampire?
Jan. 17th, 2009 02:43 pmI’m starting to scare myself. In the past two months I’ve been more disaster prone than a main character in a YA romance. So far I have…
( ...done a whole bunch of stupid things. )
What next? Geez, I'm almost afraid to leave the house.

Jan. 4th, 2009 04:55 pmJust a quick note to say thank you to everyone who sent cards and such for the holidays. *smush* Each one was wonderful, and I loved and appreciated them all.
Sorry it seems like I've fallen off the face of the earth these past couple of weeks, especially after making such a yucky post about my job/financial situation. Things in that direction have gotten a bit better lately, though I won't say anything more at the moment for fear of jinxing it. :P Anyway, I should be able to catch up with lj, email, regular mail and phone calls this week, so watch out!
Happy New Year everyone!

Holiday Stuff
Dec. 23rd, 2008 11:13 amWhee! Christmas cards go out today. Ha! Told you I'd be lucky if they got there before Valentine's day.:P
And now, a quick Tolkien meme before I rush out to do the Christmas shopping.
( meme )
Ah, procrastination is lovely.
Happy holidays!

Nov. 25th, 2008 08:50 amNow, this is worrying. Comic book collector prosecuted for his collection of lolicon and yaoi manga
"...despite the argument that there was no actual children portrayed in the manga, Handley faces felony obscenity charges, including the receipt and possession of obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children."
I mean, yeah, child pornography is wrong. Wrongity, wrong, wrong, wrong. But HELLO people, fictional characters are not real. Books and art are supposed to be covered under the first amendment. If those protections go, what's next?
"So, what are you in for...stealing? selling drugs?"
"Nah, the cops found my copy of Clan of the Cave Bear."
It could happen, right? Ayla is under 18 when she loses her virginity. Both that and her beating are described pretty graphically. And I have a poster of John William Waterhouse's Hylas and the Nymphs in my room. I guess I'd better take it down--those nymphs look pretty young. HOMG, child abuse!
*sigh*
Edit--another link
"And finally, for those of you who are active in fandoms such as Harry Potter, Twilight, Teen Titans, Young Avengers, or any other franchise for which there is a large volume of fan created art depicting fictional minors in an erotic fashion, a conviction means that Live Journal, Insane Journal, and Deviant Art will start cracking down on content and, of course, you are now open to criminal prosecution under the PROTECT act, because the previous protections which more or less exempted illustrations not based on real persons will have been substantially eroded."--Katherine Keller
Edit 2--Yeah, this is an America-centric post. Sorry...

Halloween!
Nov. 2nd, 2008 05:55 pmHappy late Halloween to everybody who celebrated this year.
Trick or treating on Renfair Drive was a little subdued this year since we had to switch it to Thursday to avoid the fair traffic on Friday night. No live music at Rio's place; no random hippies wandering the streets with glow sticks; no grown-up parties either. :( This was a bit of a letdown since I took off Thursday night with the thought that I could spend time with the kiddo AND have my yearly night of being a real person at an adult social event. Ah well. It was still fun in a mild, kid-centered way. We walked down the street in a huge mob, pretended to be flesh-eating zombies, howled like wolves at the passing cars, and ate so much sugar it was ridiculous. Kiddo went as Indiana Jones. I found a wonderful dress in an old box in my grandma's closet, and went as Wednesday Addams. Pictures later, maybe. If they don't suck.
...and now, it's time to go to work. Joy.
Miss you guys!

Because
phyncke's elves asked for their portraits:
( Fin and Aegnor )
*hee* Aegnor looks like a cross between Heath Ledger and Shakespeare's Puck.
And because it was
luin77's birthday yesterday:
( The Woodland King )
Here is Oropher meditating before doing some sort of ceremony that involves prancing around wearing antlers.
And because I missed
jastaelf's birthday entirely:
( Young! Thranduil )
This is young Thranduil at the same ceremony. Notice how he's trying his darnedest not to burst out laughing. It's ever so difficult to be an adolescent elf.;)
Going to pick up Larry at the train station in an hour! Yay!
(Edit--anybody else want one?
stendhaliser, Maglor is on the way.)

Oct. 7th, 2008 10:58 amThe rest of the half-assed sketches from Saturday night. Warning--big files. I'm too lazy to resize.
( girls of lotr )
They got sillier as the night progressed.

This is what happens when there's no one around to chat with on Saturday night.
( I stay up way too late sketching. )
More later if my scanner stops being incompetent.

Hey there. Typing is kind of soothing today, with the nice clickity-clack of the keys over the lovely electrical hum of the air conditioner. Something soothing is definitely what I need right about now. Ahhh...electricity. I love, love, love electricity.
Since the hurricane, I've been working double shifts at my Grandma's house. She has no power, and asks me every twenty minutes or so why her lamp/tv/refrigerator doesn't work. Seriously, every twenty minutes except when she's actually sleeping. Since last Saturday.
Yes, I did say Saturday.
It's not her fault that she can't remember, but I swear I'm going to shake her one of these times. Okay, so probably not, but still. Every. Twenty. Minutes. The kiddo, who is coming to her house with me until Dad cleans up from the flooding in his place, ends up arguing with her every time she does it. It always turns into a huge dramatic mess. Luckily, we have some relief nurses coming in now, and I have tomorrow and the next day off. Thank you God.
I can't believe I'm whining about my grandma, who after all is safe, alive, and has a roof over her head--just like the rest of my friends and family here in Houston. Isn't it funny how the little annoyances become so very annoying even though they don't really matter at all? Even after living through something as dangerous as a hurricane? After all the craziness, there are so, so many good things that I should be thanking my stars about. I think I'll make a list.
1. We're alive.
2. The people I love are safe and well (if a bit soggy and temperamental in places).
3. The really big oak tree did not, in fact, crash into my apartment building like the other oak tree did to the people who live two buildings down. I have a roof and intact windows and actually no damage at all. I am so, so, so lucky.
4. I went to the grocery store yesterday. It was open.
5. The neighbors across the street from my grandma's house are very nice. I met them while hauling tree limbs to the curb, thereby getting to talk to someone with a mental age of above ten years. Wheee!
6. I have power! Electrical power is wonderful, I can't stress this enough.
7. Having gas in the tank of my van is pretty wonderful too, even if it did take me an hour and a half to get it.
8. Normally, an hour is entirely too long to wait for a McDonald's hamburger--but it was totally worth it after so many days of eating food out of a can. It tasted sooooo good.
9. I'm here and alive and safe to whine about the little things. Yay for human nature.
Geez, what a list--half complaining, half grateful. It's times like these when I realize what a silly thing I really am. :D

A hurricane is coming here tonight. There are no evacuations for my zip code, so I'm staying here with my canned food and pointlessly taped windows. I think the kiddo and I will have a sleepover in the closet.
I decided to stay in my apartment rather than being stuck at grandmother's house for a probable two or so days of electricity-less family drama dooooom. My Dad is furious, but I just can't see how my moving less than a mile is going to be any safer.
Here's to hoping my oh so wise and reasonable decision doesn't come back to bite me in the ass.
Anyway, I'll be updating later when it's all over and/or I get the jitters waiting and need to type at people.

Finwenian Charm
Aug. 28th, 2008 12:48 amI don't own anything by Tolkien, more's the pity. Thank you
phyncke for doing a quick read/beta for any glaring mistakes. :) It's been changed since, so any remaining mistakes are my own.

I can't believe I'm doing this...
Aug. 24th, 2008 12:55 am...but hey, why not?
Here's my super secret writing journal:
Not so secret anymore journal
I've had it for about a year, but I just archived a bunch of stories there tonight to get all of the junk off of my hard drive. I find I don't care so much anymore if people read my writing. It's just silly. Besides, it's not likely that any of you have any illusions about my nonexistent genius by now. :D
Anyway, all of it is unbetaed, and most of it is friends locked. If you want to read anything really embarrassing, you'll have to friend me. It's like blackmail or something. *hee*

Another Aredhel Drabble
Aug. 24th, 2008 12:35 amAredhel/Caranthir-->because I have a really stupid facination with Aredhel/any Feanorian boy, an obsession that keeps me up nights writing horribly cliched stuff.
As always, it all belongs to Tolkien. I'm just playing with his characters.

I don't think I've ever wanted something so much ever.
Sil Elves + yaoi + a book I can hold in my hot little hands.
And the ART! If I could do something like that I think I'd be happy forever.
I'm getting this the moment I have some extra money.
There's Feanor/Fingolfin, Fingon/Maedhros, and Salgant/Maeglin. <3<3<3<3 Salgant/Maeglin! I thought I was the only one to have that particular fantasy. :D
I'm in love.
And,
and,
and,
just LOOK at them all!
